sorry it has taken me so long to finally post something, it has been a bit of struggle to get the internet out here. well where do I start. The plane ride was nice. I sat by junior expert national champion downhiller christina penny. the food on New Zealand Air is pretty enjoyable and they serve tea after each meal. It's so cute. Once we arrived in New Zealand we unloaded our bags and bikes, got throughly inspected and then loaded our stuff onto a giant moving van. We got back onto a small commuter plane and traveled 30 minutes from Aukland to Rotorua. We got off the plane and stupid me forgot my brand new digital camera on the plane and had to run back out tere and retrieve it. ooops, how embarassing. We got into Rotorua very early and it was freezing cold. Some of the riders were still wearing there flip flops looking as if it was still summer. Not me though, I came prepared. The team loaded up onto vans and drove to the hotel. The hotel is located outside of town right across from the venue. USA cycling booked this hotel three years ago and since they have built three new buildings just to accomodate the team. It has very nice rooms and are spacious enough so nothing feels cramped. I am rooming with the other two Junior women XC racers, Danae York and Stephany White. They are two very nice girls and I am happy to be rooming with them.
At the hotel USA Cycling has brought in three American chefs to cook us all of our meals. So far they have all been excelent. Way better than home, sorry dad.The first couple days we really didn't do anyting except for chill and ride on the road. We finally got to ride on the course today. It is so much is fun. It has really steep climbs and some fun technical sections. Nothing to hard. I can't wait till I can finally race on it. we race on wednesday at ten o clock so tomorrow is a rest day, an easy lap ride in the morning. It is so amazing being here seeing all of the different people and listening to all of the different languages. tomorrow is the opening ceromony so I am sure I will Have some more stories to tell you after. Stay happy back in the states.
Peace,
Rachel
